Technical Inside Sales/Account Manager

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prioritize RFQs based on perceived likeliness to attain. This requires an understanding of the customers price sensitivity and an understanding of the Company’s positioning within deephole drilling market.
  • Communicate with customer (via phone, email, and occasionally in-person meetings) to ensure complete understanding of the customer’s project requirements. This may require you to explain to the customer how different processes or features can affect pricing. The ideal candidate must have strong writing skills as most of the customer communication will take place over email. Excellent communication and grammar are required.
  • Use the Company’s quoting tool to estimate the required operations and machining hours per RFQ, at times partnering with Operations Manager, Manufacturing Engineer.
  • Enter sales order in Visual ERP system. Confirm quoted pricing and ensure lead times match customer PO.
  • Routinely follow up with customers after order has been completed to ensure their satisfaction with Company’s execution and follow up with management if customer is not satisfied, to offer solutions.
  • Retrospectively, compare previous quotes to the actual manufacturing cost. Did your quotes achieve our required profitability? If not, was it due to a quoting error or a manufacturing execution error?

Core Qualifications:

  • Ability to learn – our industry and offerings are quite niche. Therefore, we do not expect candidates to have existing knowledge on deep hole drilling. But the ability to quickly learn our manufacturing processes and the capabilities required. The ideal candidate will be able to learn these processes in the first two weeks.
  • Technical inclination – this role requires the ability to read complex manufacturing drawings/blueprints. This skill can be taught, but the candidate will have to have a general technical inclination in order to learn.
  • Perceptive – able to understand customer’s needs, pain points, hindrances, and price sensitivity.
  • Communicative – the candidate will have to manage communication across multiple RFQs. Examples of great communication include advising customers that RFQ was received, asking clarifying questions early, promptly responding to customer inquiries on job status, etc.
  • Collaborative – able to work with scheduler and operations manager to identify problems and create solutions in a team setting.
  • Comfort with communicating and delivering news to customers – few examples would be occasionally advising late-paying customers that their current orders cannot ship until all late invoices have been paid, raising prices and having an logical explanation holding firm to your new pricing. At times, customers will ask for services that fall outside of their original RFQ – in this scenario you will have to empathetically explain that our price does not reflect these additional services.

Preferred Past Experience:

  • Previous experience interacting with customers while representing a company. A previous “sales” role is not required, but a candidate with inside sales or account management experience will excel in this position.
  • Experience in machining: preferred, but not required. A technical proclivity and/or the ability to quickly learn machining will substitute for absence of machining experience.
  • Previous experience in a high-volume quoting/estimating role, and the ability to prioritize quotes based on the likeliness of winning the bid.

Required Education:

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Associates degree in manufacturing or engineering, a plus
